Management of injuries using RICER in first aid 

RICER stands for Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation & Referral

REST: Have the casualty stop their activity and minimise movement

Ice: Use an Instant Ice Pack on the affected area as soon as possible and reapply every 2-4 hours for the 24 hours post injury.

COMPRESSION: Apply a wrap or heavy bandage to the affected area to reduce swelling and support the injury, You may also wish to apply a splint.

ELEVATION: Raise the injury area above the heart to help reduce swelling.

REFERRAL: IF suspect a fracture or if their is in improvement visit your GP or local hospital for further treatment.
