First Aid For Snake Bites

A snake or spider bite can be a life threating emergency, If you suspect someone has been bitten follow the steps below to help manage the causality.
Some signs of bites can be:
Fang marks, often only a single mark or a scratch mark but two fang marks may be present.
Visible recent Marks or scratches. combined with Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea.
Headache, drowsiness, giddiness or faintness.
Double or blurred vision, drooping eyelids.
Trouble speaking or swallowing. Pain or tightness in the throat, chest or abdomen.
Breathing difficulties, respiratory weakness or arrest.
These signs may take up to  an hour or more after the person has been bitten. or In children may appear within minutes.


 First Aid For Snake Bites

  1. Follow DRSABCD Plan.
  2. Get Urgent medical aid. Call Triple Zero (000) for an ambulance.
  3. Ensure the casualty does not move, unless it is to remove them from danger.
  4. Get the casualty to rest by laying them down and provide reassurance.
  5. Use the pressure immobilisation technique, Appy a pressure snake bite bandage over the bite site as soon as possible, start at fingers or toes and move up the limb as far as can be reached. Apply tightly but without stopping blood flow. You can tell if you have applied the correct pressure when the interactors become boxes
  6. Mark the bite area on the most outer bandage  
  7. Use a splint on the limb, this can be a splint or some thing ling a ridged to stop movement. avoid placing splint over bite site if possible.
  8. Record the persons name, time of bite, any observations and treatments. 
  9. If the Person becomes unconscious or not breathing normally, Commence CPR, Defibrillation and call Triple Zero (000) Again.
